Melanie Chang - Reiki Master
My journey as a healer began early, growing up as a biracial Asian American in the culturally rich environment of Hawaii. Surrounded by diverse traditions, I was deeply influenced by my father’s extensive library on acupuncture, Qi Gong, reflexology, and Shiatsu, soaking in this knowledge as though it were second nature. My family and friends were my first “patients,” and I found great joy in providing bodywork to those around me.
After spending nearly a decade as a social worker in Hawaii, Illinois, and California, working with children and families, I transitioned into Human Resources for another ten years. Eventually, I decided to pursue my passion for healing by formally studying Chinese medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine’s (NUNM) Classical Chinese Medicine program. Midway through the program, I took a leave of absence after the passing of my father, stepping into the role of executor for his estate.
During a period of deep self-reflection, I felt called to reconnect with my Japanese heritage by becoming a Reiki practitioner. This path led me back to hands-on healing, which has always felt the most natural to me. I began my Reiki training in 2023 and began treating patients in 2024 upon completing my Reiki Master certification.
As a Reiki practitioner, my intention is to be fully present, creating a safe and peaceful space for you to receive universal energy where it is most needed, fostering healing and overall well-being.
The Great Blue Heron has been my animal spirit guide for almost two decades. It first appeared when I asked the Universe for a sign as I faced significant life changing events (job change, death of a family member, and divorce). I just needed to know I was on the right path and a Great Blue Heron would show up as confirmation and encouragement.
Dancing is an expression of free flowing “ki” and naturally promotes the mind-body connection. Similar to music, dancing can bring people together in “the moment” of spiritual collaboration.
I incorporate my collective knowledge and experience of Social Work, Chinese Medicine, and Reiki. Healing doesn’t occur in vacuum or isolation. People have a better chance of healing from physical and emotional wounds if they receive support. I draw upon the wisdom of my spirit guides and those of the patient to channel the “ki” to where it is most needed.
